Vaping involves inhaling the vapor formed by an e-cigarette. It is becoming a popular alternative to tobacco smoking. The reason for this trend is that it’s considered to be healthier than smoking. Another reason is that vaping offers many flavors and taste to enjoy.
A study suggests that people prefer vaping non-tobacco flavors because it is more pleasing. Also, tobacco cigarettes inject harmful tar in our lungs. As people are getting aware of this damage, more people are choosing to vape.
E-juices comes in a variety of refreshing flavors that you can buy from a store. With products like marijuana packaging available, you can get the best vaping experience using them.
But if you do not have such products available to buy nearby, then the good news is that you can prepare DIY e-juice with basic ingredients.
With a homemade version of juice there is an infinite possibility to render the taste. Thus, DIY vape juice is the best cost-effective solution to continue vaping.
Before jumping to the recipe, let’s clear the basics first.
Vape juice contains the following four essential ingredients-
- Propylene glycol (PG)
- Vegetable glycerin(PG)
- Flavorings-
- Nicotine (optional)
FLAVOR AND NICOTINE
While making vape juice, you can alter the quantity of nicotine per your preference. There are endless combinations of tastes and flavors you can try at home. All you have to do is add them in the desired proportion, and you are good to go.
You can also buy a DIY vape kit from Getkush and get all the supplies bundled up. Now you only need to follow the instructions to make a bottle of vape-juice.
Make sure to buy 10 mL plastic bottles for test recipes and some 60 mL bottles. The large bottles will contain large amounts of your favorite homebrew e-liquid.
WHAT ARE VG AND PG?
VG is an abbreviation of ‘vegetable glycerine’ while PG stands for ‘Propylene glycol’. These two compounds are the ‘most used’ ingredients in the preparation of vape juices. Both are odorless and belong to the alcohol class of family.
Despite their class, they’re not intoxicating. Instead, PG and VG are a form of sugar alcohol and a part of many edible products. These produce vapors when heated, which is why they are the base in e-juice.
PG is less dense than VG and can turn things messy if not handled well. It is used in vaping because it hits the throat in the same way as the tobacco smoke. As per the FDA, PG is “generally recognized as safe” when used as a food additive.
VG is a natural product formed from vegetable oils. It is a viscid liquid bearing a sweet savor. Due to this, it is suitable for sub-ohm vaping. If you love to form dense vapors of smoke, you can try ‘puffco peak’. It is the best portable hookah on the market.
According to the FDA, VG is also safe. It has a low potential to cause any damage to skin or eyes. As per a 2018 study, VG has minimal toxicity when inhaled.
MIXING VG AND PG
PG and VG are mixed in different proportions because of their varying properties. The most common ratio of PG and VG is 50/50. Yet, many vapers like to render it to 70/30 (VG/PG). In short, the composition depends on your choice.
If you want a big throat hit, consider increasing the PG amount. Otherwise, if you want some dense vape clouds, increase VG content. You can calculate the ratio of VG/PG using online vape calculators.
BLENDING THE INGREDIENTS
Now that you have taken the appropriate amount of PG and VG, it is time to mix them. For this, you will need dropper cap bottles. Make sure to wear hand gloves if you are adding nicotine.
Take the precise amount of both liquids using a syringe and drop them precisely in the e-bottles for mixing. Now, cap the bottle and shake well for approximately one minute.
When the liquids get mixed, start adding flavors. Remember to add only one drop at a time and then shake well. You shouldn’t be restless to put the whole quantity of flavor at once. Some flavors are too intense, even in a minute amount.
STORING YOUR E-LIQUID
After you finish the blending process, the next step is to store them. Put the mixture in sealed bottles and label them with VG/PG ratio, date made, nicotine level, and flavor percent. In this way, it will be convenient for future reference.
It is worth noting that some juices take time to achieve their desired state. They need a specific period to blend and settle. Thus, you shouldn’t hurry to take them out and start vaping. Most of the recipes have specified time for steeping.
After the flavor blends uniformly, store these bottles of homemade juice in a cold and dark place away from sunlight.
